The ribbon eel is very slim and max. 120 cm long. They hide in caves and holes in principle, mostly on the ground in front of the reef.
Juveniles to 65 cm are black and have a yellow stripe on the back. The males longer than 65 cm are dyed bright blue and changes from a length of about 95 centimetres their sex. Their colour will change now from blue to yellow.
